Change, Leadership and Teacher are the three words that describe my career. Change: I've had the privilege of donning various hats throughout my career, spanning a wide spectrum of industries, geographies, and roles. During my two decades as a naval officer, I encountered a remarkable array of distinctive and demanding roles, such as overseeing a fire department, tracking Soviet submarines, managing the mechanical, hull, and electrical systems of a formidable strike destroyer as Chief Engineer, providing VIP escort services to diplomats and high-ranking military officials at the Pentagon, leading a non-profit relief organization, and even working as a spy. In the realm of entrepreneurship and business leadership, my journey has been marked by diversity and high-level accomplishments. I ventured into multiple enterprises, including the establishment of an executive search firm offering innovative services and the founding of a publishing company that revolutionized its industry. In the most recent decade, I took the helm of a well-established wine gift company with two decades of history and orchestrated its remarkable growth; achieving a tenfold expansion. Presently, I serve as a Vistage Chair, where I function as a peer group facilitator and coach. My role involves empowering CEO and business owner members to evolve as leaders, make better decisions, and enhance the efficiency of their companies. Leadership: I always strive to maximize the potential, both personally and professionally, for my people. I see organizations as living organisms made up of the collective energy, intelligence and stamina of its people. I believe in treating people fairly with respect and dignity. I believe in empowering people so that they have the tools, training, authority and space to do their job. Effective communication for both bad and good news, expectations and performance is essential. To all the organizations that I have led, I have successfully brought these principles and have been rewarded many times over. Teacher: The common thread throughout my many roles is that I like to teach. Sharing, mentoring and coaching my people to greater success and development are my greatest achievements. Whether it was quizzing my watch team, drilling my fire parties, training my recruiters in ASIC design, teaching leadership to my high school students, or implementing company wide training plans, having better prepared and more knowledgeable employees has consistently led to elevated success. I enjoy seeing people growth into their current roles and beyond.
